Default 300 Wby Mag Vs 300 Rem Ultra Mag

How would you guys compare the 300 Rem Ultra Mag to the 300 Wby?

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
The Weatherby has stood the test of time
The 300 RUM is still a hell of a round. It will give you slightly higher velocity than the 300Wby, cheaper brass and not having to deal with the Wby radius shoulders does appeal to some.
Both rounds are built for performance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

There may or not be a real world speed advantage. If you load your own then you can get cheaper Rem brass but it is generally crap. Nosler and Federal brass for both cost the same. Accuracy wise all I can say is I never had a 300wby disappoint me and I never shot a Rem I would miss not owning, so.........

That is kind of what I thought but I am not as knowledgeable about the technical aspects as a lot of you guys seem to be. I don't know what is going on with the spaces in this comment box but I gues that you will figure it out. Anyway, it seems that anything that I shoot at with this rifle usually drops where it stands. A lot of people don't realize that it comes down to the guy pulling the trigger more than the gun. But I have shot a lot of rifles and I have never fired one that compares to a Weatherby except for an old Winchester model 70 chambered in 300 Win Mag that I have been hnting with for about 20 years.

It's nice to see some semi-objective comments here. If CR were still around he wouldn't be so kind to the RUM.

I love the 300 RUM, and I'm not a super big fan of the double radius on my 338/378, but it is what it is. The 300 RUM I've got is a hell of a shooter.

All of that being said, you hit the nail on the head JC. It's all summed up in 2 words. Shot placement.

Well like said above very simular in velocity when loaded with the same bullet. But if we are talking Rem 700 300 ultra to a Wby Mark V 300 Mag , I would say the scales are very tipped to the Wby side.

Don't make me turn my pretty Rem 700 action into a 300 RUM Broz just to prove a point LOL

Joking aside, Remington did create some competion against the good ol 300 Wby.
One major thing to consider is how long will the 300 RUM be around?
Some cartriges do fade with time, will this be one?
The 375 RUM and 338 RUM have been pulled from a couple of Remingtons models since they were introduced.
