Chunk, welcome to the site. You will get good info, like from Mr. Pat, and won't get flamed.

    Good hunting, Tom

    Hello Chunk,

Welcome to the forum. The 2 actions are totally different and will not interchange. The Vanguard will fit in the older Sako stocks (they are a Jap copy of a Sako) pre- A- prefix and pre 75, 85 series. Bottom metal will take some fitting as will barrel channel.

Thumbs up Re: vanguard vs. mark v

Thanks Bighorn. Talk about unexpected info; I have a very nice old Sako stock that I believe is for a L-61 Finnbear. If I can try a long action Vanguard in it, I will know if it's a Finnbear or a later variant.

    Thanks again, Tom

Years ago when these "Howa's" first showed up in the US they where a Sako thru and thru. I had a older "Dickinson-Howa" that even had the tapered dovetail scope mounting on the the receiver. Fit and finish was in the toliet but it was a Sako. I have used old style B&C Sako stocks on Howas back before anyone made anything for a Howa.

Chunk. try Accurate Innovations. They make a wood stock for the Howa/Vanguard with a full-length aluminum chassis that is better than the factory stock. I would also try Stocky's Stocks for sure. He has a lot of Howa/Vanguard stocks in inventory, and fast delivery. If you look on Ebay, there may be a factory stock for sale. You can also try Weatherby. A last resort is the Sako stock I have if I can identify it's vintage.

    Good luck, Tom
