    Default California!!!

Just curious here.........nothing political at all, but what's with California?? We all know that if you buy ANYTHING, bra straps, toilet seats, hubcaps, rubber duckies, lipstick, rutabagas, toe jam, Space Shuttles, Buicks, ANYTHING, that it comes with a warning that the people of California have discovered that it contains something that is BAD for you. I digress here.............As you all know I surf a lot on Gunbroker.com (Way to much..) and it is damn seldom that ANYBODY will ship to California. I pity you poor bastards. Are the gun laws so strict out there that the entire planet shuns you? I am from New York State and I thought they were difficult, but..............wow!!!

Thought I might provoke a few comments. Nothing Political.......just the facts Guys. The discussions could be interesting and informative. Please, be matter of fact and Professional- I realize this subject has the potential to be volatile........

Mark, I believe the red tape is very lengthy. I sold one rifle to a guy there and my FFL said never again. Then it is held for 10 days once it arrives. Most dealers feel it is not worth the headaches. I feel bad for the guy that live there as far as buying guns goes.

I hope my post is accurate, if not maybe some of the members out there can enlighten us.

Ten days is true. It isn't that hard to ship a rifle. It is all about how much work the sells is willing to put in. Yes it is a pain, but we are just like you guys. I would put in the work if thaat is what it took to get you a rifle. Just what we have to put up with.

A rifle can be shipped to CA. There is a list on the CA DOJ website which shows which handguns, rifles etc that will be accepted into CA all others are sent back. Once the gun is received by the FFL, the buyer signs paperwork and waits the usual ten days. People on gunbroker probably think CA is communist/socialist and don't want to sell their firearms to them. I personally have more issue with the taxes here than gun laws, at least we can still own guns.

I agree! The taxes are the biggest issue! The gun laws kinda suck, but at least we can still own 'em!

    Angry Re: California!!!

Gang The problem with the Calif. DOJ is they require the seller FFL to register with them before they can ship to the Calif. FFL and the Calif FFL holds the gun for 10 days. The Calif FFL has to send the seller's FFL his registration number that he gets from the Calif DOJ. Dealers feel that there is enough red tape as it is and don't want to register with Calif. DOJ. Just plain RED TAPE and no one wants to deal with it. I have sent 2 guns to Calif and I had to find a dealer that would ship for me. There was none so I took my guns into Calif and sold them thru a pawn shop. So they could be sold in Calif. That was a 180 mile RT drive for me to make a deal...No more sales to Calif. from me....Pat

I believe Mrpat is correct. The dealer I used to send the one I sent had to fill out a multi page form prior to the normal FFL to FFL transaction. Also most sellers on GB offer a 3 day return period on their used guns. When you add Ca's 10 day holding period and all the time for paperwork it can easily turn into 3 to 4 week ordeal... Not knocking, but it just would not work for me. I feel bad for the sportsmen out there. But hey, I moved around a bit and glad I did. I like where I am now.

I would be pissed too if that was me Pat. It really doesn't make much sense to get guns shipped to CA unless its a special circumstance. I guess though a sale is a sale, money is money and in this economy every dollar counts.
