Default 24" vs 26" barrel for a 300 Win Mag

I won a 300 Win Mag Vanguard Stainless in a raffle contest and was wondering if a 24" barrel s long enough for this caliber. I have searched the net and there seems to be a split in opinions. I put this rifle in the sell section of this website and just wanted to get some feedback before I sale this rifle.

    Thanks

Yes for the 300 win mag, 24 is fine.

there is about 60f/s difference on the same load from 24" to a 26"

As stated, what's killing is the first 3100fps and not the last 60.
Be happy with your 24" tube!

For a little .300 Winny (), 24" is fine. It's a sacrilege, however, to adorn a Weatherby caliber in anything less than 26"

It won't be tremendously detrimental to the performance of said rifle.

The .300 Weatherby will even turn in good numbers in 24" trim. Check out the Barnes website load data section and you will see what I mean.

I have a SS Laminate Vanguard in .257 that does very well with it's 24" tube.

You can thump the pages of ballistics charts all day but it would be very difficult to prove the difference in true terminal performance or trajectory with hunting conditions in the field. Dead is dead.

Well, two years ago I made a program for this "problem"
    The results seems quite reliable.

I've done a lot of shooting with the 300WinMag w/ a 24 inch tube. You will be fine with that barrel. IMHO, it really does not require a 26, and not much to be gained by going to the 26.
