Thread: 6-lug action opened to magnum bolt face

  1. #1

Default 6-lug action opened to magnum bolt face

Would it be possible to open up the bolt face on a mkV 6-lug action to a magnum bolt face?

Thinking about a lightweight donor action for a 300wsm build.

What about extractor and feed rails? Would it even be possible to feed the wizzum in this action? Has it been done?

    Thanks in advance.

The weatherby 9 lug bolt is .710 and the 6 lug is .573 outside diameter including the shroud. If you open up the the 6 lug to .540 or something larger than .532 there's not going to be much shroud left.

The shroud directs gas away from the shooter and out the side of the bolt. Doesn't sound doable to me but someone else may have tried.

    Goodluck and shoot straight

You need a magnum bolt face to accommodate the 300WSM.
The 325 WSM runs at very high pressures.
I for one would NOT recommend it.
There's no such thing as a short cut.....do it right the first time.

I found the attached thread under the gunsmithing weatherby forum. One of the retired gunsmiths bighorn wby posted some info regards your question.
